The turbulence of the 1st quarter bled into April as “Liberation Day” sparked a significant sell-off in the equity market within the first week.  A subsequent 90-day tariff pause provided some relief, and the markets rallied back on trade deal optimism and solid earnings.  Economic skepticism from both consumers and businesses is competing against positive data, which indicates an economy that remains resilient for the time being.  These variables, along with a Federal Reserve that remains in a wait-and-see approach, paint a picture of uncertainty going forward.  Liridon Gila, CFA, recaps April performance and highlights some factors that could continue to impact markets.
